Cooper's Hawks have become quite numerous over the past decade in suburban Miami-Dade County. Breeding has been recorded in a number of locations. In Miami Shores, where I live, Cooper s hawk is sighted all year long. I ve seen four bird kills this year three Eurasian Collared-Dove and one Blue Jay. Wherever there is a local dove roost an individual hawk can be sighted most every day. The prey does wise up and changes location after awhile. I would guess that the recent expansion of the Cooper s Hawks range into South Florida is due to explosion of the Eurasian Collared-Dove population here.
